Breakthrough in construction of oxygen-independent photosensitizer for type Ⅲ photodynamic therapy

Cancer remains one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide.Despite enormous research efforts over the last several decades,death caused by cancer is predicted to rise by ca.70%within 2030[1].Traditional treatment modalities involve removal of the primary tumor by surgery and further supplement with chemotherapy,radiotherapy or im-munotherapy.However,these treatments are inevitably ac-companied with severe side effects,inducing drug resistance[2].As a result,scientists are eager to investigate novel therapeutic treatments for cancer.
