High efficiency and more functions bring a bright future for organic photovoltaic cells

Organic photovoltaic(OPV)cells,a promising renewable energy technology,have attracted considerable attention due to their flex-ibility,non-toxicity,and low-cost solution processability.Great efforts contributed by researchers from chemical,physical and optical communities have significantly boosted the development of OPV cells.Nowadays,the state-of-the-art OPV cells have realized power conversion efficiencies(PCEs)of over 19%for single-junc-tion cells and over 20%for two-terminal tandem cells[1-3].Mean-while,significant strides in developing potential applications of OPV cells for extending photovoltaic markets are also achieved[4-6].It now seems appropriate to offer a brief overview of OPV cells and highlight outstanding results.
