It has been two and a half years since Fuqing ZHANG, a distinguished professor in the Department of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science at the Pennsylvania State University (PSU), passed away unexpectedly on 19 July 2019. This spe-cial issue is to commemorate Prof. Fuqing ZHANG, who has made tremendous contributions on predictability, data assimila-tion, and the dynamics of high impact weather.
