Low-dimensional organic structures with hierarchical components for advanced photonics

Photons as information carriers have the potential to meet the ever-increasing demands on information processing and commu-nication technology and computing by using photonic integrated circuits[1].Low-dimensional organic heterostructures(OHSs),a class of materials typically composed of two or more distinct com-ponents,that are of great importance for the realization of pho-tonic integrated circuits due to their ability to inject,guide,and manipulate light at micro/nanoscale.However,rationally incorpo-rating distinct features of single structures into the desired com-plex heterostructures while maintaining rigorous control over the morphology remains a synthetic bottleneck.We report a bot-tom-up hierarchical self-assembly strategy that progressively transforms single structures into increasingly sophisticated multi-level heterostructures such as tri block,penta-block,core/shell,core/crown,sandwich,branch,T-like,H-like,and dumbbell-like structures.This generalizable strategy provides predictable syn-thetic pathways to achieve complex heterostructures for photonic applications.
