Crustal growth of the North China Craton at ca.2.5 Ga

The prominent age peak at 2.7 billion years ago(Ga)revealed in global zircon data may represent a widespread formation event of substantial amounts of juvenile continental crust,that is,the new crust was extracted from mantle melting without reworking large amounts of ancient crustal material[1,2].In contrast to the 2.7 Ga peak exhibited by the global zircon age dataset,younger such events are only represented in certain areas of the world.For instance,another prominent,but younger event at 2.5 Ga is well-represented in the North China Craton(NCC),the Dharwar Craton of India,and the Gawler Craton of Australia[1].The widespread 2.7 Ga zircon age peak in the global age spectrum is commonly interpreted as Earth's peak of continental crustal production.How-ever,the age of major crustal generation of the North China Craton(NCC)still remains controversial.
