Highly Aligned Ultra-Thick Gel-Based Cathodes Unlocking Ultra-High Energy Density Batteries

1.Introduction
With the continued uptake of portable electronics and electric vehicles,improvements in the energy density of batteries are critical.Current commercially available lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)have a specific energy of ca.260 Wh kg-1;however,further improvements are needed.[1-3]The United States Department of Energy,for instance,has set a target of a 350 Wh·kg-1 cell at 125 $·kWh-1 by 2022.
