Probing recycled carbonate in the lower mantle

Carbonates in marine sediments and altered oceanic crust are major carbon reservoirs on Earth's surface,which can be transported into Earth's interior by subduction.High-pressure experiments and thermodynamic models demon-strate that carbonates can stably exist under Earth's lower mantle conditions[1,2].
